Lubricants for Sexual Health
Lubrication plays an important role in comfort, confidence, and overall sexual wellbeing. In fact, research shows that a majority of people have used lubricant at some point in their lives (about 65 % of women report having used a personal lubricant), with many choosing it specifically to make sex more comfortable and pleasurable. Lubricants help reduce friction and microtears, improve comfort during intimacy, support arousal and responsiveness, and enhance confidence and relaxation. Using lubricant is not a sign that something is “wrong.” Bodies change with age, stress, hormones, medication, and other factors and lubricant is simply a tool that supports pleasure, comfort, and wellbeing at every stage of life.

From a sexual health perspective, choosing the right lubricant is less about hype and more about ingredients, body compatibility, and intended use. Lubricants can support comfort, reduce friction, and protect delicate tissues but the wrong formula can cause irritation or throw off vaginal or penile balance.
Ingredients matter. High-quality lubricants prioritize body-safe formulations and avoid common irritants like parabens, glycerin (for those prone to vaginal infections), harsh preservatives, and artificial fragrances. Look for products with clean ingredient lists and, when applicable, pH-balanced formulas that align with vaginal health.
If I can take one lubricant with me on anywhere, it would be coconut oil, so I love Coconu's oil-based organic lubricant. But beware, condoms and oil don’t mix!
